Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The ex-president was convicted of orchestrating a armed takeover in last fall and sentenced more than 27 years in incarceration, but he remained under confinement pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a safety action after recent developments came to light.

This encompassed trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a call for a demonstration that could facilitate a possible escape.

Court Filing Details Flight Fears

In a filing authorising the arrest, the magistrate said intelligence from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the surveillance device to ensure success in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the confusion caused by the demonstration called by his child.

His son, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a legislator, called for a gathering of his followers near his father's house to take place on Saturday evening.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on social media on Friday: Will you battle for your nation, or watch it all from your mobile device there on your couch? I call on you to battle with us."

He said the gathering would be so followers could seek divine intervention for his health and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our nation."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of the judge's determination was the chance of Bolsonaro's move to embassies near the dwelling, considering that the investigations revealed a background of arranging to ask for protection through a consular facility", a declaration said.

The judicial paperwork underscores that the American diplomatic mission in the capital, the capital city, is situated around 13km from the former president's residence.

Global Responses

His judicial problems have provoked anger from fellow right-wing populist American leader President Trump, causing him to impose a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

The former president is being kept in a national police facility in the capital and will have a detention review on Sunday.

Recent Legal Requests

It was only on last Friday that the his legal team asked the Top Court to permit him to complete his entire prison term under domestic detention, with electronic monitoring.

They also petitioned that the former president be permitted to leave his home for medical treatment, saying he demanded frequent medical attention for respiratory ailments and other health problems.

Context of Sentencing

The former president was found guilty of leading a conspiracy aimed at retaining his authority after he lost the presidential race to his ideological adversary, Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he was aware of a plan which encompassed plans to murder his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, Alckmin, and to imprison and murder Alexandre de Moraes - the top judicial official who has been managing the former president's case.

The scheme was prevented because it couldn't obtain the endorsement of the military leaders. The current president was sworn in without problem on 1 January 2023.

But a seven days after, on 8 January, numerous Bolsonaro supporters stormed and vandalised official structures in the national capital, Brazil's capital.

The law enforcement stepped in and around approximately 1,500 persons were detained.

The magistrates found that the demonstrators had been encouraged by the former president whose scheme, they said, was for the country's army to step in, restore order and reinstate his authority.

At the period, the legal team called the 27 years and three months sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also prohibited from seeking elected position until 2060 - a decade minus two years after the end of his sentence.

The ex-leader called the legal proceedings a "witch hunt and said it was designed to prevent him participating in the next presidential race.
